The Beginning- Story of Gursidak Foundation

GURSIDAK FOUNDATION is a registered NGO  under the companies act 2013 (Section 8 License Number 122619). Its aim is to educate underprivileged children by providing them, free tuition classes. We also provide financial assistance to students who need it for their educational purposes. Children are also encouraged to participate in sports activities. We also celebrate festivals together with our students giving them fun activities like we recently celebrated Diwali with rangoli competition and Diya decoration. We encourage our students to pursue their interests and goals and provide them with skill development opportunities like providing space to paint for children who are interested in pursuing painting.  The goal is to provide resources to children who are in need of it .

The foundation started with 4 students and now it’s expanded its reach to 120 students who are provided free learning across 3 tuition centres operational in Naya Nangal, District Rupnagar, Punjab. The man behind the foundation is MANDEEP SINGH, a software engineer who has completed his BTech in electronics and communications from Chitkara university. He has been working for social causes since 2014 helping children with gifts, clothes and toys. His father’s learning that toys and clothes can only provide short term happiness, Long term happiness can only be achieved through independence and a better life which only comes when one is educated impacted Mandeep leading him to start the Gursidak foundation. He believes education is the only medium by which we can bring a positive change in society. Mandeep empathizes and understands the pain and helplessness the children feel because of lack of resources as he himself is born with a physical deformity. His own personal struggles give him a sense of social responsibility and push him to work for society and provide children with much-needed resources.

Gursidak foundation provides children with 6 days of tuition classes every week provided by 14 active volunteers as of now. The main subjects taught are mathematics, science and language subjects. Parents of the slum and rural areas are apprehensive of sending their children to study so the foundation had set up a counselling session too to clear the parents’ doubts and also educate them on the importance of education for changing their children’s lives.

Our aim is to keep increasing our reach and provide education to as many underprivileged students as possible.

  1. I remember when I first joined this NGO, I was a little nervous that how will I complete my internship as I had no idea about this, but when the NGO head contacted me, he was really friendly and the team also guides me like a teacher. Therefore, I consider myself very fortunate to be involved in this NGO. Salute to all the people involved in this NGO doing such a good job.
